Grow American Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) from seed with this 480-seed pack of a hardy, native shrub or small tree celebrated for its fragrant late-fall flowers and brilliant autumn foliage.
Blooming from October through December, this unique species produces bright yellow, ribbon-like flowers along bare branches—often after the leaves have dropped. It is one of the very last plants to flower each year, bringing color and fragrance to the dormant landscape. In fall, the broad green leaves turn a clear, showy yellow, adding another season of visual interest.
Witch Hazel typically grows 15–20 feet tall with a similar spread, forming an open, irregular crown of arching branches. It is ideal for woodland gardens, naturalized plantings, shrub borders, privacy screens, wildlife habitats, and bonsai cultivation. Cold hardy and urban tolerant, it has also been traditionally valued for herbal and medicinal uses.
