The Sapindus saponaria, also known as western soapberry or wingleaf soapberry, is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree native to the Americas. It can reach up to 50 feet in height and its golden-colored fruit contains a single black seed that can be used to make soap. The tree's wood is strong and its leaves are thick and leathery, making it a great choice for basket making.


Scarification: Soak in hot tap water, let stand in water for 24 hours, repeat process on seed that did not imbibe


Stratification: cold stratify for 90 days


Germination: sow seed 3/4" deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed
