Create your own cold-hardy tropical landscape with Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei), one of the most winter-tolerant palms available. This evergreen palm combines exotic beauty with impressive durability, thriving in USDA Zones 7B–11 and tolerating temperatures down to approximately 10°F.
Native to mountainous regions of China and surrounding areas, Windmill Palm forms a slender trunk wrapped in attractive brown fiber that gradually sheds to reveal a smooth, ringed surface. Its large, fan-shaped green fronds can reach up to 3 feet across, forming a balanced, symmetrical crown 8–10 feet wide.
In late winter to early spring, bright yellow flower clusters emerge within the crown. Female plants may later produce decorative blue fruits in late summer.
