Growing Watermelon Crimson Sweet from Seeds:
• Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Plant the seeds 1/2 inch deep in starter trays filled with moist potting soil. Place the trays in a warm spot with plenty of light.
• When seedlings have two sets of true leaves, transplant them outdoors into the garden or containers. Make sure the soil is well drained and not too wet or too dry. Space plants 4-5 feet apart in rows 8-10 feet apart.
• Keep plants evenly watered throughout the growing season. Watermelons need at least 1 inch of water per week during the growing season. Mulch around plants to help retain moisture and keep weeds down.
• Fertilize plants every 2-3 weeks with a balanced fertilizer such as 10-10-10 or 20-20-20. Follow directions on the package for application rate.
• Harvest when the rind turns a deep yellow or green color and when thumping on it produces a hollow sound. Cut fruit from vine using garden shears or sharp knife, leaving 1-2 inches of stem attached to fruit. Enjoy your sweet harvest!
