Why Grow Double Gold Raspberries?
Beautiful golden fruit: Double Gold produces distinctive rose-gold champagne-colored raspberries, often darker than other yellow raspberry varieties.
Excellent sweetness and flavor: These berries are prized for their delicious, sweet taste. In the seller’s nursery taste tests, they were preferred over other yellow varieties.
Potential for one or two crops: Depending on pruning, plant management, climate, and growing conditions, Double Gold can produce one or two crops per year.
Vigorous growth: These fully rooted starter plants can establish and grow quickly when provided with suitable conditions. Under favorable conditions, plants may reach several feet in height during a growing season.
Useful disease resistance: Double Gold shows resistance to Phytophthora root rot and certain common leaf diseases. Resistance does not mean complete immunity, so appropriate growing conditions and care remain important.
Self-fertile plants: Double Gold can set fruit without a different raspberry variety for pollination, although pollinator activity and growing conditions can affect fruit production.
Planting and Growing
-
Sunlight: Choose a sunny location for the best growth and fruit production.
-
Soil: Use well-draining, fertile soil enriched with organic matter.
-
Watering: Keep the root zone consistently moist without leaving the soil waterlogged.
-
Spacing: Give plants adequate room for airflow, growth, and harvesting.
-
Pruning: Prune according to your preferred cropping system and local climate.
-
Winter care: Protect young plants from severe cold and follow recommendations appropriate to your growing zone.
When Will My Plants Produce Fruit?
Double Gold may produce fruit relatively early, but a harvest in the first growing season is not guaranteed. Fruiting depends on plant maturity, establishment, pruning, climate, and growing conditions. Allow the plants time to establish and develop strong growth.
Seasonal Shipping Note
These are young, live potted starter plants. If ordering in fall or winter, consider whether you can provide suitable protection, such as a greenhouse or another appropriate growing environment. Young plants may not have enough time to establish before cold weather arrives.
The variety is listed for USDA zones 5–8. Warmer climates are not automatically ideal, as winter chill requirements and local conditions can affect raspberry performance. Please confirm current availability and the expected dispatch date before ordering.
Please note: The stated Monday or Tuesday UPS 3 Day Select shipping schedule applies to the seller’s 1–2-year-old potted plants; confirm the shipping method and dispatch schedule for these 6–8 month starter plants.
Grow your own distinctive, sweet golden raspberries with this set of two Double Gold raspberry starter plants—a flavorful addition to a home orchard, edible landscape, or fruit garden.
