Juniperus virginiana var. silicicola, also known as southern red cedar, is a slow-growing tree native to the southeastern United States. It is valued for its fragrant cedar wood, which is used in various applications such as chests, flooring, and scientific instruments. The tree is also important for birds as a winter food source and its red inner bark can be used for dye, making it a valuable addition to gardens and landscapes.


Scarification: Soak in hot water (120degrees F), let stand in water for 24 to 48 hours, cover seed with water.


Stratification: cold stratify for 90 days


Germination: sow seed 1/4" deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed
