Grow a tough, adaptable, and useful landscape shrub with 30 Siberian Pea Tree (Caragana arborescens) seeds. Native to Eastern Russia and Northern China, this hardy multi-stemmed shrub or small tree thrives in challenging climates and poor soils.
Siberian Pea Tree grows 15–20 feet tall and 12–15 feet wide with bright green, feathery compound leaves. In spring, fragrant yellow pea-like flowers bloom singly or in clusters, attracting bees and pollinators. Flowers are followed by 3-inch yellow-green pods that mature to brown and contain edible peas.
The seeds are high in protein (up to 36%) and contain beneficial oils. The peas should be cooked before eating and have traditionally been used as an emergency food source. Young pods may also be cooked as a vegetable, and the yellow flowers can be added to salads.
This species is valued for:
✔ Nitrogen-fixing ability (improves soil fertility)
✔ Windbreak and hedge plantings
✔ Erosion control (extensive root system)
✔ Wildlife habitat and pollinator support
✔ Deer resistance
✔ Exceptional cold tolerance (Zone 2+)
✔ Heat, drought, wind, and salt tolerance
Ideal for permaculture systems, homesteads, shelterbelts, and difficult growing conditions.
Seeds are packaged securely and labeled.
