Grow your own Rowan Tree (Sorbus aucuparia), also known as European Mountain Ash — a hardy, fast-growing ornamental tree prized for its showy white spring flowers, vibrant autumn foliage, and brilliant orange-red berries.

Native to Europe and Asia, this deciduous large shrub or small tree grows 20–40 feet tall with a narrow upright-oval crown that broadens and opens with age. In May, flattened clusters of small white flowers bloom, followed by abundant pendant clusters of bright orange-red berries in late summer and fall. The berries persist into winter and are highly attractive to birds and wildlife.

The compound green leaves turn striking shades of yellow to reddish-purple in autumn, making Rowan one of the most dependable fall color trees for colder climates. Extremely hardy (Zone 3), it tolerates cold, urban conditions, and moderate drought once established.
