Red Maple (Acer rubrum) is one of the most adaptable and widely distributed native trees in North America. This Northern Source seed selection offers superior cold hardiness and dependable growth in cooler climates throughout USDA Zones 3–9.

Maturing at 40–70 feet tall with a rounded to oval crown, Red Maple is prized for its rapid growth and dramatic seasonal color. In early spring, clusters of red flowers bloom before the leaves emerge. These are followed by reddish winged samaras, along with red buds and twigs that provide ornamental interest through multiple seasons. In fall, the foliage turns a brilliant, showy red—sometimes accented with orange or yellow depending on site conditions.

Leaves are shiny green above and pale beneath, 3–5 lobed and 3–6 inches wide with distinctive V-shaped sinuses. Red Maple is ideal for use as a shade tree, street tree, specimen planting, windbreak component, reforestation project, or bonsai subject.
