🌿 Plant Details

• Common name: Philodendron Micans / Velvet Leaf Philodendron

• Botanical name: Philodendron hederaceum var. hederaceum ‘Micans’ (commonly sold as Philodendron micans)

• Plant type: Tropical evergreen climbing or trailing houseplant

• Pot size: 4-inch nursery pot

• Foliage: Velvety, heart-shaped leaves with green, bronze, and purple tones

• Growth habit: Trailing or climbing vines

• Light: Bright, indirect light

• Best for: Shelves, hanging planters, plant stands, and indoor plant collections

☀️ Light

Place your Micans in bright, indirect light for healthy growth and attractive leaf color. It can tolerate lower light, but growth may become slower and vines may stretch, with smaller leaves. Avoid prolonged direct afternoon sunlight, which can scorch the foliage. If using a grow light, follow the light manufacturer's recommended distance and duration.

💧 Watering

Water thoroughly when the upper portion of the potting mix has dried and allow excess water to drain. Avoid keeping the soil constantly soggy. Check the soil regularly, since smaller plants and warmer rooms may require more frequent watering than established plants in cooler conditions.

🪴 Soil

Use a loose, airy potting mix that retains some moisture while draining well. A quality houseplant mix amended with perlite or orchid bark can help improve aeration and reduce the risk of waterlogged roots.

🌡️ Temperature

Philodendron Micans prefers warm indoor conditions, ideally around 65–80°F (18–27°C). Protect it from cold drafts, sudden temperature changes, and prolonged exposure to temperatures below 55°F (13°C).

🌫️ Humidity

Average household humidity is generally workable. Moderate to higher humidity can encourage healthy foliage, but good airflow and sensible watering remain important.

🌱 Feeding and Pruning

During active growth, apply a balanced houseplant fertilizer according to the product label. Trim long or sparse vines as needed to maintain the shape you prefer. Pruning can encourage fuller growth, and healthy cuttings may be propagated under suitable conditions.

🌿 Trailing or Climbing Display

Let the vines cascade from a hanging basket or elevated shelf for a lush, flowing look. Alternatively, provide a moss pole or trellis and gently guide the stems upward. As the plant grows, you can shape it to suit your space.
