Grow a special avocado variety in your home orchard with the Oro Negro Avocado Tree, whose name means “Black Gold” in Spanish. This grafted avocado variety was discovered in a commercial avocado grove in Miami-Dade County, Florida, in 1989 by grower Mike Hunt.

After approximately 20 years of evaluation, Oro Negro was introduced for its potential in both home gardens and commercial production. It is believed to be a seedling of Monroe, possibly crossed with a Mexican-type avocado, which may explain its distinctive dark skin.

The fruit is especially appealing for its rich, buttery flavor and smooth, creamy texture.
