Orange Jasmine Care Guide
Light: Provide bright light with morning sun and some protection from intense afternoon sunlight, especially in hot climates. Gradually acclimate the plant when moving it outdoors to prevent leaf scorch.
Water: Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Allow excess water to drain, and avoid leaving the roots in waterlogged soil. Container plants may need more frequent watering during hot weather.
Soil: Use a fertile, well-draining potting mix. A mix suitable for evergreen shrubs or tropical container plants works well. Drainage is essential for healthy roots.
Temperature: Orange jasmine prefers warm conditions and is not frost-tolerant. Protect it from cold weather. In regions with cold winters, grow it in a container that can be moved to a sheltered location.
Humidity: Moderate to higher humidity is beneficial, although established plants can tolerate some variation. Maintain good airflow around the foliage.
Fertilizer: During active growth in spring and summer, apply a balanced fertilizer suitable for evergreen shrubs according to the product label. Reduce feeding when growth slows.
Pruning: Orange jasmine can grow quickly in favorable conditions. Prune lightly to maintain a rounded shape, encourage branching, or train the plant into a hedge or small tree. Avoid excessive pruning if you want to enjoy its flowers.
Flowers and Fragrance
The cream-white flowers are known for their sweet, orange-blossom-like scent. Flowering depends on maturity, light, temperature, and growing conditions, so blooms are not guaranteed on arrival or throughout the year.
Small red fruits may develop after flowering under suitable conditions. Fruit production is also not guaranteed.
Growing in a Container
Orange jasmine can be grown in a container in cooler climates, allowing it to be moved into a protected area when temperatures fall. Choose a pot with drainage holes and provide sufficient light indoors. Outdoor planting is best suited to warm climates without frost.
