Establish a large woodland planting with this 600-seed pack of Mountain Laurel (Kalmia latifolia), one of the most admired evergreen flowering shrubs native to eastern North America. Known for its spectacular spring bloom and glossy year-round foliage, Mountain Laurel adds timeless beauty to natural landscapes.
In the wild, it grows in rocky or sandy woodland soils and typically forms a dense, rounded shrub 5–15 feet tall and wide. With age, plants develop distinctive branching structure, and in rare cases may grow into a small tree up to 30 feet tall.
In May, the shrub becomes covered with large terminal clusters (up to 6 inches across) of intricate cup-shaped flowers. Each bloom (about 1 inch wide) has five distinct sides and ranges from soft rose to white, often highlighted with decorative purple markings inside. Small brown seed capsules follow and may persist into winter.
The leathery, dark green evergreen leaves provide structure and visual interest throughout the year, making Mountain Laurel ideal for woodland gardens, naturalized areas, cottage gardens, and mass plantings. It pairs beautifully with rhododendrons and azaleas in acidic soils.
