Create a beautiful woodland-style planting with this 300-seed pack of Mountain Laurel (Kalmia latifolia), one of North America’s most admired native evergreen shrubs. Known for its intricate spring flowers and glossy foliage, this plant delivers year-round landscape interest.
Native to the eastern United States, Mountain Laurel naturally grows in rocky or sandy woods. It typically forms a dense, rounded shrub 5–15 feet tall and wide, gradually developing sculptural, gnarled branches with age. In rare cases, it may grow into a small tree reaching up to 30 feet tall.
In May, the shrub becomes covered with impressive terminal clusters (up to 6 inches across) of cup-shaped flowers. Each bloom (about 1 inch wide) has five distinct sides and ranges from rose to white with decorative purple markings inside. After flowering, small brown capsules form and may persist into winter.
The leathery, dark green evergreen leaves provide structure and color all year, making Mountain Laurel ideal for woodland gardens, cottage gardens, shrub borders, and naturalized landscapes. It pairs beautifully with rhododendrons and azaleas in acidic soils.
