The Manchurian Fir, also known as Abies holophylla or Needle Fir, is a beautiful evergreen tree native to northern Korea, southern Ussuriland, and China. It can grow up to 30 meters tall with a trunk diameter of 1 meter and has a conical crown with spreading branches. The tree is known for its scaly gray-brown bark, sharp and prickly leaves, and impressive yellow-brown cones that disintegrate in October to release seeds with wedge-shaped wings.

Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours

Stratification: cold stratify for 30 days

Germination: seed may start to germinate in cold strat., sow seed 1/4" deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed
