It is a large tree with blue-green needles and long hanging cones. The Sierra white fir is valued for its timber, used in construction and furniture, and is also popular for landscaping. It is a long-lived tree and plays an important role in the Sierra Nevada ecosystem as a host plant for the Sierra Nevada bristlecone moth.
