The knobcone pine, also known as Pinus attenuata, is a unique and attractive tree that stands out with its knobby cones. These cones stay attached to the trunk for up to 20 years and require temperatures of at least 200 degrees F to open and disperse the seeds. Found mainly in coastal ranges in Oregon and California, knobcone pines grow best in warm, rocky mountain soils and can reach heights between 8-24 meters.
