Grow one of the most iconic rainforest giants with these 60 Kapok (Ceiba pentandra) seeds. Known as the Silk Cotton Tree, this majestic tropical species is prized for its rapid growth, towering height, and wide umbrella-shaped canopy.
In ideal tropical climates, Kapok can reach up to 150–200 feet tall and may grow as much as 10+ feet per year when young. Juvenile trees feature distinctive protective spines along the trunk, while mature trees develop impressive buttressed roots that provide stability and drought resilience.
Creamy white to pale pink flowers bloom before the leaves emerge and are pollinated by bats. Woody pods later split open to reveal silky, cotton-like fiber surrounding the seeds. This fiber has historically been used in pillows, cushions, and flotation materials due to its buoyancy and water resistance.
An excellent large shade tree for tropical and subtropical landscapes, Kapok also attracts wildlife and adds dramatic vertical presence.
