Grow your own Japanese Red Cedar from seed and enjoy a graceful, fast-growing evergreen prized for its elegant pyramidal form and striking reddish bark. Cryptomeria japonica, also known as Sugi or Japanese Cedar, is native to Japan and China and has been cultivated for centuries as a specimen and avenue tree.

This tall, cone-shaped evergreen features soft bluish-green foliage arranged in spiraling ranks that completely cloak the twigs. Its thick reddish-brown bark peels attractively in long strips, adding year-round interest. In its native habitat it can exceed 180 feet tall, though landscape trees typically mature around 40–60 feet.

Japanese Red Cedar is excellent for privacy screens, windbreaks, large landscape plantings, bonsai, and Christmas tree production. The 150-seed pack is ideal for nursery starts, larger planting projects, and bulk growers.
