Grow a rare and eye-catching ornamental with Igiri Tree (Idesia polycarpa), also known as Chinese Wonder Tree. This fast-growing, broad pyramidal deciduous tree is prized for its tropical-looking foliage, fragrant spring flowers, and spectacular berry displays.
Large heart-shaped leaves emerge bronze-purple before maturing to glossy deep green above with striking blue-white undersides. The foliage is held on attractive red stalks, adding even more ornamental appeal. In April and May, fragrant yellow-green flowers bloom in long panicles up to 12 inches in length.
By fall, female trees produce abundant clusters of grape-like berries that shift from purple-red to brilliant orange-red before darkening with age. The berries are edible and highly attractive to birds, creating outstanding winter interest—especially after snowfall.
Igiri Tree is dioecious (separate male and female trees), so multiple trees are needed for berry production. It is wind tolerant, adaptable to many soil types, heat and drought tolerant once established, and generally resistant to pests and disease.
This 150-seed pack is ideal for larger landscape projects, wildlife plantings, nurseries, or gardeners wanting to ensure both male and female trees.
