Grow a strong, fast-growing, and highly adaptable shade tree with Thornless Honeylocust (Gleditsia triacanthos inermis). Known for its airy, fern-like foliage and golden yellow fall color, this hardy deciduous tree is widely planted in landscapes, parks, and city streets.
Young trees can grow 2–3 feet per year under good conditions. The open, plume-like canopy provides filtered shade, allowing grass and other plants to grow beneath it — making it an excellent lawn or street tree.
In late spring to early summer, fragrant greenish-yellow flowers appear in clusters, followed by long, decorative twisted seed pods that often persist into winter.
