Hinoki Cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) is a refined, slow-growing evergreen conifer native to Japan, admired for its elegant pyramidal form, layered horizontal branching, and striking reddish-brown exfoliating bark.

Maturing to 50–75 feet tall with a 15–25 foot spread, this evergreen develops dense, flat sprays of dark green, scale-like foliage with subtle white markings beneath. Mature bark peels attractively in narrow strips, while small orange-brown cones (about ½ inch in diameter) add ornamental interest.

Highly valued for bonsai, hedges, windbreaks, privacy screens, Japanese gardens, and specimen plantings, Hinoki Cypress is recognized as one of the American Horticultural Society’s “75 Great Plants for American Gardens.” This 1,800-seed bulk pack is ideal for large landscaping projects, nursery production, or reforestation plantings.

You will receive:
✔️ 1,800 Hinoki Cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) seeds
✔️ Clearly labeled bulk seed packaging
✔️ Complete germination and stratification instructions
✔️ Secure, moisture-protected packaging

🌱 Seed Preparation & Germination

Seeds are very small. Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Soak seeds in water for 24 hours.

  2. Cold stratify for 30–40 days at 40°F in a moist medium (not wet).

  3. Sow indoors 1/8 inch deep and keep evenly moist (not soggy).

Growing Tip: Protect young trees from strong winds and avoid poorly drained soils. Light summer pruning is tolerated, but do not cut into older brown wood.
