Cornus controversa, commonly known as Giant Dogwood or the Wedding Cake Tree, is a stunning deciduous tree prized for its elegant, tiered horizontal branching and beautiful seasonal display. Growing 30–50 feet tall, this fast to moderately growing tree develops a wide-spreading, picturesque canopy that makes a striking focal point in the landscape.

In mid to late spring, Giant Dogwood produces abundant flat clusters of creamy white flowers (up to 5 inches across). These showy blooms are followed by attractive fruits that transition from red to blue-black as they ripen, providing an excellent food source for birds and wildlife.

Large, graceful leaves (5–8 inches long) are dark green above and silvery-green beneath, turning a vibrant red in autumn for outstanding fall color. Young trees grow upright, gradually developing the signature layered branching pattern as they mature.

An excellent choice for lawns, shade gardens, patios, or as a specimen tree, Giant Dogwood adds structure, beauty, and wildlife value to any garden.
