Cornus controversa, commonly known as Giant Dogwood or Wedding Cake Tree, is a striking deciduous tree admired for its graceful, layered horizontal branching and dramatic seasonal beauty. Growing 30–50 feet tall with a 25–35 foot spread, this fast to moderately growing tree makes a stunning focal point in lawns and large garden spaces.

In spring, Giant Dogwood produces abundant flat clusters of creamy white flowers up to 5 inches across. These blooms are followed by ornamental berries that transition from red to deep blue-black as they ripen, attracting birds and beneficial wildlife.

Large, elegant leaves (5–8 inches long) are deep green above and silvery-green beneath, turning a vivid red in autumn for spectacular fall color. The branching habit begins upright when young and develops into its signature tiered, spreading form with maturity.

An excellent choice for specimen planting, shade, or wildlife gardens, this tree adds structure and beauty throughout the seasons.
