Cornus controversa, commonly known as Giant Dogwood or Wedding Cake Tree, is a striking deciduous tree admired for its graceful, layered horizontal branching and beautiful seasonal display. Growing 30–50 feet tall with a broad 25–35 foot spread, this fast to moderately growing tree becomes a stunning focal point in any landscape.

In mid to late spring, Giant Dogwood produces abundant flat clusters of creamy white flowers up to 5 inches across. These blooms are followed by ornamental fruits that transition from red to deep blue-black as they ripen, attracting birds and wildlife.

The large, elegant leaves (5–8 inches long) are dark green above and silvery-green beneath, turning a vivid red in autumn for spectacular fall color. Young trees grow upright and gradually develop their signature tiered, spreading structure as they mature.

An excellent choice for lawns, shade areas, patios, or as a specimen tree, Giant Dogwood offers year-round interest and strong wildlife value.
