Plant your own European Crab Apple (Malus sylvestris) with this 120-seed pack — ideal for orchard projects, food forests, homesteads, wildlife plantings, and large-scale landscaping.
Also known as French Crabapple or European Wild Apple, this historic species is believed to be one of the ancestors of the modern cultivated apple. In spring, the tree is covered in fragrant pinkish-white blossoms that attract bees and pollinators. By late summer to early fall, small tart fruits develop, ripening from green to yellow with an orange-red blush.
The fruits are excellent for jams, jellies, cider, juice, and vinegar production. Birds and wildlife are also drawn to the fruit, making this an excellent choice for naturalized areas and habitat gardens.
This fast-growing, adaptable tree thrives in Zones 5–9 and can be trained for espalier, pruned into hedges, or shaped for bonsai. It offers four-season interest with spring flowers, dense summer foliage, edible fall fruit, and yellow autumn color.
