Grow your own English Hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata), a hardy and versatile small flowering tree prized for its profuse spring bloom and bright red edible fruits. Native to Europe, India, and North Africa, this deciduous tree or large shrub typically grows 15–20 feet tall with a rounded crown and dense branching structure.

In mid to late spring, clusters of white five-petaled flowers blanket the tree, creating a striking ornamental display that attracts bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. By early fall, glossy red fruits known as “haws” develop, providing beautiful seasonal interest and essential winter food for birds like thrushes and waxwings.

English Hawthorn is extremely adaptable and tolerant of cold, heat, drought, and urban conditions. Its thorny stems make it ideal for hedging, boundary plantings, privacy screens, and natural security barriers. It can also be pruned into a formal hedge or trained as bonsai.

The edible fruits are most commonly used in jellies, jams, syrups, wines, and infused spirits. Young spring leaves and flower petals are also edible when harvested tender.

This 60-seed pack is perfect for hedge rows, wildlife gardens, and larger landscape plantings.
