Grow a majestic evergreen with Deodar Cedar (Cedrus deodara), also known as Himalayan Cedar. Native to the Himalayas, this elegant conifer is admired for its soft, fragrant needles and beautifully drooping branch tips. Young trees develop a broad pyramidal shape, maturing into wide-spreading specimens with a flat-topped crown and graceful, pendulous branching that may extend toward the ground.
Deodar Cedar typically reaches 40–70 feet within its first 25 years and can grow significantly taller over time in ideal conditions. Its dark gray-green to blue-green needles grow in clusters and remain on the tree for several years, giving it a dense, fine-textured appearance. Upright cones mature to reddish-brown and add ornamental interest.
This moderate-growing evergreen is heat, drought (once established), and urban tolerant. It makes an exceptional specimen tree for large landscapes and is also well-suited for shade, windbreaks, privacy screens, or pruned hedges. Its elegant structure also makes it popular for bonsai cultivation.
