Date Plum Persimmon (Diospyros lotus) is a hardy, deciduous fruit tree known for its sweet edible fruits, golden fall color, and ornamental value. Native to the Middle East and South Asia, this beautiful member of the ebony family has been cultivated for centuries and was once referred to by the ancient Greeks as the “fruit of the gods.”

In cultivation, this adaptable tree typically grows 20–30 feet tall with a rounded, upright form. It features smooth gray bark and glossy dark green leaves that turn a rich golden color in autumn. In July, small yellow-green fragrant flowers bloom. The species is dioecious (male and female flowers grow on separate trees).
