Chinese Pear, also known as Ussurian Pear (Pyrus ussuriensis), is one of the hardiest pear species available and is prized for its spectacular early spring bloom and dependable fruit production. Native to Northern China and Korea, this fast-growing deciduous tree produces abundant white flowers before the leaves emerge, creating a striking “cloud of snow” effect in the landscape.

Reaching 40–50 feet tall with a rounded, dense canopy, Ussurian Pear provides year-round interest. Glossy deep green leaves fill out in summer, followed by brilliant fall colors in shades of red, burgundy, purple, and yellow—often appearing together on the same tree.

The round greenish-yellow fruit has a somewhat dry but pleasant flavor and is especially well suited for canning and preserves. Exceptionally cold hardy and resistant to fireblight, this is one of the most durable pear species for colder regions.
