Chinese Holly (Ilex cornuta), also known as Horned Holly, is a durable and versatile broadleaf evergreen prized for its glossy spined foliage and brilliant red winter berries. Native to China and Korea, this adaptable shrub is widely used for hedges, privacy screens, topiary, bonsai, and foundation plantings.

Typically growing 8–10 feet tall as a dense shrub, it can also be trained into a small tree reaching up to 25 feet. Its distinctive rectangular leaves feature prominent terminal spines, giving the plant bold texture and year-round structure. Plants are dioecious (separate male and female plants). Female plants require a nearby male pollinator to produce berries. While berries are attractive to wildlife, they are poisonous to humans if ingested.
