🌿 Cultivation & Care Information
-
Botanical Name: Coffea arabica var. Bourbon Orange
-
Common Name: Bourbon Orange Coffee / Orange Bourbon Tree
-
Plant Type: Evergreen tropical shrub / Small tree
-
Sun Requirements: Bright, filtered sunlight or partial shade (Essential: Prefers morning sun or dappled light; avoid harsh, intense afternoon sun which can scorch the delicate foliage).
-
Soil / Medium: Requires rich, volcanic, deeply organic, and well-draining acidic soil. A soil pH between 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal. For pots, use a mix rich in peat moss, compost, and perlite.
-
Watering: Requires regular, consistent watering to keep the soil evenly moist, mimicking a tropical cloud forest. Never allow the soil to dry out completely, but ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot.
-
Growth Habit: A robust, upright shrub with strong lateral branches and dense, attractive foliage. Responds beautifully to indoor pruning and thrives as a patio or greenhouse container plant.
-
Temperature: Thrives in mild, warm climates (60°F to 75°F / 15°C to 24°C) with high humidity. It is highly sensitive to extreme frost and freezing temperatures.
💡 Pro Growing Tip
Coffee seeds retain their outer parchment shell, which protects the inner embryo but requires constant moisture to soften. To accelerate germination, soak the Bourbon Orange seeds in room-temperature water for 24 to 48 hours until the parchment softens. Sow the seeds flat-side down about 1/2 inch deep in a loose, damp sterile seed-starting mix or vermiculite. Maintain a consistently warm temperature (around 75°F / 24°C) and high humidity. Exercise patience—high-quality Arabica seeds sprout slowly and steadily, typically taking 4 to 8 weeks to push their iconic "soldier" hooks out of the soil!
