Blue Noble Fir (Abies procera glauca), also known as Noble Fir or Abies nobilis, is one of the most majestic evergreen trees native to the Cascade and Coast Ranges of Washington, Oregon, and northern California. This high-altitude fir is admired for its symmetrical structure, strong branching, and striking blue-green needles.
In cultivation, Noble Fir typically reaches 50–100 feet tall, though in native forests it can exceed 250 feet. It features a narrow, slightly tapered cylindrical form and flattened bluish needles about 1 inch long. The needles curve at the base and are often upswept, giving the tree a refined, layered appearance.
Large upright cones (4–10 inches long) mature from purple to olive-brown and disintegrate in fall to release winged seeds. Young bark is smooth and gray with resin blisters, becoming reddish-brown and furrowed with age. Exceptionally wind tolerant and fragrant, Blue Noble Fir is one of the most desirable premium Christmas tree species.
