Blue Balsam Fir ‘Cooks Blue’ (Abies balsamea) is a beautiful blue-tinged selection of the traditional Balsam Fir. Seed-grown trees will vary naturally in color from rich green to soft silvery-blue, with blue tones often intensifying as the tree matures. This selection has also shown better heat tolerance compared to the standard species.

Balsam Fir is an aromatic, narrow pyramidal evergreen conifer with a graceful, spire-like crown. Mature trees typically reach 50–70 feet tall and 15–25 feet wide. Branches are densely covered in flattened, glossy needles that are dark green above and white-banded beneath. When crushed, the needles release the classic balsam fragrance that makes this one of the most popular Christmas tree species.

Smooth gray bark is dotted with resin blisters containing aromatic sap. Upright purple cones appear high in the crown and disintegrate when mature — a defining trait of true firs.

Ideal for landscape plantings, windbreaks, Christmas tree farms, reforestation projects, or bonsai in early stages. Best suited for cooler climates.
