Blue Balsam Fir ‘Cooks Blue’ (Abies balsamea) is a beautiful blue-tinged selection of the classic Balsam Fir. Seed-grown trees naturally range from rich green to silvery-blue, with many developing stronger blue coloration as they mature. This selection has also demonstrated improved heat tolerance compared to the straight species.
Balsam Fir is an aromatic, narrow pyramidal evergreen conifer with a graceful spire-like crown. Mature trees typically reach 50–70 feet tall and 15–25 feet wide. Flattened, glossy needles are dark green above with distinctive white bands beneath and release the fresh balsam fragrance that makes this species one of the most popular Christmas trees in North America.
Smooth gray bark is dotted with raised resin blisters containing fragrant sap. Upright purple cones form high in the crown and disintegrate at maturity — a defining trait of true firs.
This bulk 1600-seed quantity is ideal for Christmas tree farms, reforestation projects, conservation plantings, windbreak establishment, and nursery production. Also suitable for bonsai during early growth stages. Best suited for cool climates.
