A Special Tropical Fruit for Home Gardeners

Black Sapote is an exciting addition to a tropical fruit collection. Grafted plants can flower and fruit sooner than seed-grown trees, making them an appealing choice for gardeners looking forward to growing their own unusual fruit.

The seller's specimen tree was grown in a 10-inch pot and produced five large fruits when only about 3 feet tall. With suitable growing conditions, container growing can be an interesting option for home gardeners.

For a more compact container plant, pruning back the top after fruit set can help manage its size.
