Grow one of North America’s most valuable native hardwood trees with Black Cherry (Prunus serotina). This fast-growing, long-lived species is prized for its fragrant spring flowers, edible summer fruit, brilliant fall foliage, and premium-quality timber.

Black Cherry typically grows 40–60 feet tall (occasionally up to 100 feet) with a straight trunk and oval crown. In early spring, abundant drooping clusters of small white fragrant flowers appear as the leaves unfold, attracting pollinators and beneficial insects. By early summer, dark red to nearly black cherries ripen and are relished by songbirds and wildlife. The fruit is edible for humans and commonly used for jelly, wine, and flavoring.

In autumn, the glossy green leaves turn attractive shades of yellow, orange, or red depending on growing conditions.

This species is:
• Cold hardy (Zones 4–9)
• Heat, drought, and salt tolerant
• Fast growing and long lived
• Excellent for wildlife habitat
• Highly valued for furniture-grade hardwood

Ideal for woodland gardens, homesteads, shade trees, naturalized plantings, and reforestation projects.
