The Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, also known as bearberry or kinnikinnick, is a hardy ground cover that grows slowly and reaches a height of 6-12" and a width of 3-6'. It is suitable for steep, sandy banks in sunny or lightly shaded areas and helps prevent soil erosion. While its red berries are enjoyed by birds, they are not safe for human consumption.
Scarification: Soak in sulfuric or nitric acid for 2-4 hours and wash under cold water for 10-15 minutes.
Stratification: warm stratify for 120 days, cold stratify for 90 days
Germination: sow seed 1/8" deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed
