Grow a bold and resilient desert native with 240 Banana Yucca (Yucca baccata) seeds. This striking evergreen shrub is valued for its dramatic sword-like foliage, tall flower stalks, and large edible fruits.
Native to the southwestern United States and Mexico, Banana Yucca matures to 4–6 feet tall and 2–4 feet wide. It begins as a dense basal clump of blue-green, sharply pointed leaves (12–40 inches long) with distinctive curling white fibers along the margins. As the plant matures, a short trunk develops, lifting the rosette and creating a sculptural focal point in the landscape.
In late spring to early summer, thick flowering stalks rise above the foliage bearing clusters of creamy white, bell-shaped blooms often tinged with purple. These are followed by large, fleshy, banana-shaped fruits measuring 4–9 inches long. The fruits are edible when ripe and have traditional culinary uses.
Banana Yucca thrives in dry, sandy, rocky soils and tolerates heat, cold, drought, wind, and salt once established. Ideal for xeriscaping and low-water gardens.
