🍃 Why Grow Bacon Avocado?

Bacon avocados have a smooth, thin, dark-green skin with light speckling and a creamy, mild flavor. The variety was developed in 1954 by James Bacon in Buena Park, California, from Mexican avocado types.

Bacon is considered one of the most cold-hardy avocado varieties, tolerating temperatures down to approximately 25°F once established, making it a popular choice for growers in USDA Zones 9–10 and other mild-winter regions.

🌼 Growing Information

Bacon avocado seeds can be germinated using the water method or planted directly into soil. Provide warm temperatures, bright light, and consistent moisture for best results. As seedlings mature, they can be transplanted into larger containers or planted outdoors in suitable climates. Bacon avocado trees adapt well to containers, patios, balconies, and small gardens, and can also be grown indoors as ornamental plants.

⚠️ Avocado trees grown from seed may not grow true to the parent plant, and fruiting is not guaranteed.
