Grow a true icon of Southeast Asian coffee heritage with our premium pack of 120 Ateng Jaluk Coffee (Coffea arabica) seeds. Deeply rooted in the high-altitude, volcanic terroirs of Sumatra (particularly the renowned Gayo Highlands), the 'Ateng Jaluk' variety is a celebrated regional selection within the Catimor lineage. It is highly revered by coffee professionals and international roasters for its classic Sumatran cup profile, delivering a remarkably heavy, syrupy body, low acidity, and complex tasting notes of rich dark chocolate, warming spices, earthy cedar, and a subtle herbal finish.

Our select package contains 120 certified, high-viability, freshly harvested seeds (parchment coffee seeds) chosen specifically for their exceptional genetic purity and strong germination potential. The Ateng Jaluk plant is a highly vigorous, compact evergreen shrub featuring lush, glossy deep green leaves and tight clusters of star-shaped, intensely fragrant white flowers that emit a stunning jasmine-like aroma. Renowned for its natural dwarf growth habit and outstanding resistance to leaf rust (CLR), this variety makes a magnificent, high-yielding centerpiece for your tropical food forest or an exceptionally hardy indoor ornamental houseplant.

You will receive: ✔️ 120 Premium certified-quality Ateng Jaluk Coffee seeds ✔️ Freshly harvested and hand-selected to ensure optimal viability and robust growth ✔️ Packaged in professional, moisture-controlled botanical sachets to maintain long-term freshness ✔️ Specialized coffee germination and early care guidelines included

🌿 Cultivation & Care Information

  • Botanical Name: Coffea arabica var. Ateng Jaluk

  • Common Name: Ateng Jaluk Coffee / Sumatran Ateng Tree / Gayo Arabica

  • Plant Type: Compact evergreen tropical shrub / Small tree

  • Sun Requirements: Bright, filtered sunlight or partial shade (Essential: Prefers morning sun or dappled light; avoid harsh, intense afternoon sun which can scorch the foliage).

  • Soil / Medium: Requires rich, deeply organic, and well-draining acidic soil. A soil pH between 5.5 and 6.5 is ideal. For pots, use a premium mix rich in peat moss, compost, and perlite.

  • Watering: Requires regular, consistent watering to keep the soil evenly moist, mimicking a humid tropical highland environment. Never allow the soil to dry out completely, but ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot.

  • Growth Habit: Features a naturally compact, dense, and bushy dwarf growth habit with strong lateral branching. Responds beautifully to structural pruning and thrives exceptionally well as a patio or greenhouse container plant.

  • Temperature: Thrives in mild, warm, and humid climates (60°F to 75°F / 15°C to 24°C). Highly sensitive to extreme frost and freezing temperatures; must be kept indoors or protected in cold regions.

💡 Pro Growing Tip

Coffee seeds retain their outer parchment shell, which protects the inner embryo but requires constant moisture to soften. To accelerate germination, soak the Ateng Jaluk seeds in room-temperature water for 24 to 48 hours until the parchment softens. Sow the seeds flat-side down about 1/2 inch deep in a loose, damp sterile seed-starting mix or vermiculite. Maintain a consistently warm temperature (around 75°F / 24°C) and high humidity. Exercise patience—high-quality Arabica seeds sprout slowly and steadily, typically taking 4 to 8 weeks to push their iconic "soldier" hooks out of the soil!
