☕ Cultivation & Care Information

  • Botanical Name: Coffea arabica var. Arusha

  • Common Name: Arusha Coffee / Tanzanian Arabica

  • Plant Type: Evergreen tropical shrub / Small tree

  • Sun Requirements: Partial shade to full sun (Thrives best under filtered sunlight or canopy shade, mimicking its natural high-altitude mountainous habitat).

  • Soil / Medium: Deep, rich, organic, and well-draining acidic soil (pH 5.5–6.5 is ideal). Responds exceptionally well to organic compost.

  • Watering: Requires regular, consistent watering. Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged, as coffee roots are highly sensitive to standing water.

  • Growth Habit: An elegant, medium-sized evergreen shrub with dense lateral branching, dark glossy green leaves, and heavy clusters of coffee cherries.

  • Temperature: Thrives in mild, high-altitude subtropical climates (ideal temperatures between 60°F to 75°F / 15°C to 24°C). Must be strictly protected from hard frost.

💡 Pro Growing Tip: Coffee seeds in parchment can take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks to germinate. To speed up the process, soak the seeds in clean, room-temperature water for 24 hours before sowing. Plant them flat side down in a sterile, sandy seed-starting mix, covering them lightly with about 1/2 inch of soil. Keep the medium warm and consistently damp, and enjoy the rewarding journey of growing your own specialty coffee from scratch!
