Arnot Bristly Locust (Robinia fertilis) is a rugged, extremely fast-growing deciduous shrub widely valued for erosion control, land reclamation, and slope stabilization. This vigorous species can reach 8–12 feet tall in just a few years and spreads rapidly by root suckers, forming dense thickets that provide quick woody cover on difficult sites.

In late spring to early summer (May–June), clusters of fragrant sweet pea-like pink to pale purple flowers bloom along the branches, creating an attractive ornamental display. The branches are covered in stiff bristly hairs, and the dark green foliage turns yellow in fall.

Highly adaptable, this shrub tolerates poor sandy soils, salt spray, wind, heat, cold, drought, deer, rabbits, and urban pollution. As a nitrogen-fixing plant, it improves soil fertility over time—making it especially useful for restoration and reclamation projects.

⚠️ Due to its aggressive suckering habit, Arnot Bristly Locust is best suited for slopes, erosion-prone areas, naturalized plantings, and large landscapes—not formal residential gardens.
