Arnot Bristly Locust (Robinia fertilis) is an extremely hardy, very fast-growing deciduous shrub ideal for erosion control, slope stabilization, and large naturalized areas. Reaching 8–12 feet tall within just a few years, this vigorous shrub spreads by root suckers to quickly form dense, stabilizing thickets.
In May and June, fragrant sweet pea-like pink to pale purple flowers bloom in showy racemes, adding ornamental value to this rugged landscape plant. The branches are covered with stiff bristly hairs, and the dark green foliage turns yellow in autumn.
Highly adaptable, Arnot Bristly Locust tolerates poor sandy soils, salt, wind, heat, cold, drought, deer, rabbits, and urban pollution. It fixes nitrogen in the soil, improving fertility over time—making it especially useful for reclamation and restoration projects.
