Grow your own hardy native fruit trees with this bulk pack of 240 American Persimmon seeds. Diospyros virginiana is a resilient, adaptable deciduous tree prized for its fragrant spring flowers, vibrant fall foliage, and sweet autumn fruit. Perfect for food forests, homesteads, wildlife habitats, restoration plantings, and larger backyard orchards.

American Persimmon typically reaches 35–60 feet tall with a 25–35 foot spread, forming an oval to pyramidal crown. Mature bark becomes dark gray to black with distinctive blocky texture and orange tones in the furrows, adding beautiful winter interest. Glossy dark green leaves turn brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and deep red in fall.

This species is dioecious, meaning male and female flowers grow on separate trees. Fragrant white to greenish-yellow flowers bloom in May and June. Female trees produce round orange fruits up to 2 inches wide. The fruit is very astringent when unripe but becomes richly sweet and flavorful once fully ripe—often after frost. Ripe persimmons are excellent fresh and ideal for baking, puddings, syrups, jellies, and drying.

Highly adaptable, American Persimmon tolerates drought, occasional flooding, and a wide range of soil types once established. Plant multiple seeds to increase the likelihood of establishing both male and female trees for reliable fruit production.
