Grow a resilient and productive native fruit tree with these 60 American Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana) seeds. This hardy deciduous species is prized for its sweet autumn fruit, brilliant fall foliage, and exceptional adaptability. Ideal for food forests, homesteads, wildlife plantings, and larger landscape projects.

American Persimmon matures 35–60 feet tall with a graceful oval to pyramidal form. Mature bark becomes dark gray to black and deeply blocky, with attractive orange tones between ridges. Glossy dark green leaves transform into vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and deep red in fall, providing stunning seasonal color.

Fragrant white to greenish-yellow flowers bloom in May–June. This species is dioecious, meaning male and female flowers grow on separate trees. Female trees produce round orange fruits up to 2 inches wide. The fruit is highly astringent when unripe but becomes richly sweet once fully ripened—often after frost. Ripe persimmons are delicious fresh and perfect for baking, puddings, syrups, jellies, and drying.

Highly adaptable, American Persimmon tolerates drought, occasional flooding, and varied soil conditions once established. It is a valuable wildlife tree, attracting birds and other animals with its persistent fall and winter fruit. Plant multiple seeds to increase the likelihood of establishing both male and female trees for fruit production.
