Establish a productive, wildlife-friendly planting with this 1,800-seed pack of American Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis). These seeds are from a Northern range collection, offering improved cold hardiness compared to southern sources—ideal for northern climates and large-scale plantings.

American Elderberry is a fast-growing, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub that typically reaches 5–12 feet tall with a similar spread. In early summer, it produces large, flat-topped clusters of fragrant white flowers up to 10 inches across. By late summer into fall, clusters of glossy dark purple to black berries develop, perfect for syrups, jams, jellies, pies, and elderberry wine. (Berries should be cooked before consumption.)

In autumn, foliage turns vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red. This shrub spreads by root suckers, making it excellent for hedges, privacy screens, erosion control, naturalized areas, and wildlife gardens. The flowers attract pollinators, and the fruit is highly valued by birds.
